The Governing Board of Toftwood Infant and Junior School Federation is made up of a team of dedicated individuals, many of whom are parents of pupils or of former pupils of the school. We also have Governors from the local community. We all serve as Governors on a purely voluntary basis, working with the children, staff and parents as a team. We have conducted a skills audit to ensure that we have the right mix of Governors with the essential professions, skills and expertise to work effectively for the schools and the children.
The Infant School is a Foundation school and the Junior School is a Local Authority School.
Registered parents of pupils at the school elect parent Governors. Parents are notified of any vacancies as they arise and of the procedures and timetable for an election. Other Governors are chosen by the Governing Board from the local community, or appointed by the Local Authority. They bring many skills to the school and to the Governing Board and their contribution is much appreciated.
The Governing Body usually meets each half term and key elements of the schools are monitored and discussed. These areas include safeguarding, curriculum, finance, premises and staffing, but this is not an exhaustive list. The minutes of all meetings and copies of all policy documents are readily available from the school office. If you would like a copy of any of the federation policies or procedures please enquire at the school office.
If you have any issues regarding the school that you would like to discuss with the Governors, please write to the Chair of Governors via either school office. We are confident that you will be happy with our school, but in the unlikely event of any complaint or concern about any aspect of the school, do not hesitate to come in and speak to the Executive Headteacher. We aim to work together for the benefit of the children at all times. A copy of the school’s complaints procedure may be obtained from either office or on the website.
We all come into school at various times to see the schools in action. Each Governor has a specific role so that we are aware of the teaching and learning taking place in school and across the curriculum. Governors also take part in Educational Visits, school events and parents’ evenings.
We work closely with the parents and staff to ensure that the plans in place are having a positive impact on the outcomes for the children in our schools and that we are all working together to continually review and improve what we are doing for the children.
If you would like further information about the Governing Board, I am sure that any Governor would be pleased to answer your questions, or alternatively please feel free to write to me. Please address any correspondence to the school. Thank you for your interest and I do hope we shall be able to offer your child/children the very best education during their time with us at Toftwood Infant and Junior School Federation.
With my best regards,
Jill Wilson
