Parent Helpers

Parents and carers are generally welcome to be voluntary helpers in the school although not within their own child’s class. When accepting volunteers we must have absolute confidence in the placement and of its suitability for the school. We reserve the right to refuse any volunteer/parent a role in the school or terminate the placement without having to give a reason.

All parent helpers and volunteers have to sign and adhere to a confidentiality agreement which includes a section on social networking sites. Confidentiality and the right to privacy for children and staff is very important.

We may also request references for volunteers.

You will be asked to complete an enhanced online Disclosure in school, issued by Disclosure and Barring Services (DBS) for the protection of children in school. You will be asked to provide:

  • a passport and/or a driving licence if you have them (photo ID is vital)
  • birth and marriage certificates
  • two items which confirm your address from within the last three months
  • other documents if required

The safety and protection of our children is one of our main priorities.

Volunteers help with a range of activities, from mathematics to design and technology. Many of our voluntary helpers continue to help us after their children have left the school. Sometimes we require assistance with specific projects, such as book week, sports events and outings. Please see Miss Yeoman if you would like to be a parent helper and help us if you are able to do so. It really is a rewarding experience and we really value the help and support given to us by our parents.

Please note that being a parent helper does not mean you are automatically able to use our school for any placements, such as NVQ placements, which you may be studying for. If you wish to do this, then you must apply through the Head or Deputy as we have a strict limit on the number of placements we support each year.

If you wish to request to be a parent/carer volunteer, please contact either school office –

Miss Coombes coordinates parent helpers/volunteers at the Infant School and Mrs Pawley at the Junior School.

We are very appreciative of all of the support volunteers give to our schools and our children.
