In our Federation, we now have six values we have chosen to underpin the work and ethos of our whole community. These values are all ones that will be important throughout our lives and will help make us not only successful learners, but successful members of the wider community.
These values are:
Kindness
Empathy
Collaboration
Resilience
Respect
Honesty
Kindness – kindness is essential to ensure everyone feels cared for and supported. One of our Golden Rules is ‘Do be kind and helpful’ so these work together well. Kindness is taught in terms of kind words (written and spoken) and kind actions.
Empathy – in a world where everyone can be busy and focused on their own lives, we teach the children the importance of understanding other people’s point of view and the difficulties and struggles they may be facing. Empathy is the ability to understand and share the feelings of another. This is not always easy, but by taking time to listen to others and trying to support them, we create responsible and kind citizens of the future.
Collaboration – in a world where many interactions are online, many children find it hard to work successfully with others. They can find it hard to listen to others and to understand a point of view of others. We will promote collaborative working throughout the school day so they can continue this into High School and beyond.
Resilience – we need children to learn how to keep going when things are a challenge, to not give up and to be able to accept when something does not go as planned. There will be disappointments throughout life – a race you don’t win, a job you don’t get and we need to teach them how to accept this and move on successfully.
Respect – respect runs through everything we do. Respect of the views of others, respect for the adults teaching, respect for others’ beliefs, respect for rules and expectations. We will model this to the children, and share how they can show respect in their daily life.
Honesty – one of our golden rules is ‘Do be honest’ Teaching children that honesty is the best policy is really important, so they know even if something has gone wrong or there has been a problem, telling the truth is always the right thing to do.
